...but at least it won’t sound like a soda can when I drive it

laid some foam insulation into the ceiling (before)

after

I would say... it’s a good thing all this work will be hidden. I got better as I went, but the kwality of my work was very low

some in the rear quarters. heavier rubber stuff than the ceiling, which got foam.

and some in the trunk. which I’ll probably rip up and do again. I did a lazy

Kinja'd!!!

aaaanyway. still mountains of rattly tin can metal to be covered. rest of the trunk, under rear seat, inside the front doors. not looking forward to the front doors. I know it’s probably the place where it needs it the most, but access is bad.

please proceed to tell me who I’ve done it wrong in the comments. I dont think I’ve seen such an irrelevant topic so hotly debated online as sound deadening.

I think that’s a great idea. I looked at some dynamat for my Datsun 240Z but it was expensive and not authentic. I ended up buying some 1/2" thick wool felt and custom cutting it for the floor boards.

What brand did you use, and how well did it go down (or up).

I think you missed an opportunity to swap the standard dome light with a set of mini led Christmas lights and try to reproduce something like this Dodge Charger with the Rolls Royce star ceiling:

as it is currently a VX engine, it does indeed vtec, but for the economy.

cant hear much difference currently.

I’m also curious since real Dynamat is pretty pricey.

the roof foam is this stuff

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P5KQ9LV/

The $24 sheet was almost exactly the right amount. Seems adequate. The stickyness is HIGH, and the foam pulls apart if you attempt to fix laying it in wrong. So lets call that both a positive and a negative. Just get it right the first time.

Anywhere that is side or floor is getting a heavier rubber backed stuff. I THINK it’s from this company GTMat, but I honestly don’t recall

https://www.amazon.com/stores/node/20177775011

it seems also adequate. Not as disastrously sticky as the foam stuff, but perhaps thats bad. Seems to cut well, and sticks sufficiently after a good working with a rubber roller.

You don’t need to hear it, you feel it.  Or so I’m told.

Well - you asked. Google Thinsulate for automotive applications. It actually kills the road noise and dampens the sheet metal just like the asphalt dampeners but also gives you thermal insulation. It’s rated for and sold as acoustic insulation in cars .

Expensive . And I know you’ve gone too far down your path. I know all this because I threw up a bunch of the cheaper Dynamat equivalents and polyiso foam in my Transit when the Thinsulate would’ve been an easier/better/expensive choice.
